I wasn’t much of a reader when I began reading Harry Potter and I didn’t know much about the author either. I was around 10 and I instantly fell in love with reading and Harry Potter at first, I would not be the same I am today, without reading this book. It gave me an idea of who I was and who I wanted to be. It made me in love with reading and writing.
Deeper and deeper I burrowed myself into the Harry Potter world until I felt slightly detached from the rest of reality. How could this complete captivation of the world not change my life? J.K Rowling inspired me to write with passion, something I’ve always attempted to do. The universe that she had created was so diverse and spellbinding!
I found that Harry Potter could comfort me out of the depths of despair and teach me life lessons in the most subtle and entertaining ways. J.K Rowling opened the eyes of many young readers, including myself. She showed the world how momentous, well-chosen words can be. She has inspired me a lot. I believe that J.K Rowling is the embodiment of hope; a lit candle in the darkness. She proved what the power of determination can do, and at the same time, led me to understand the magic of literature. In fact, J.K Rowling was a turning point for many; her books opened up a new world where one can immerse themselves in worlds so unlike their own and discover the many mysteries unique to it as one explores the delightful details around them.

As I became a potter head, I got to know more about the author. I found out what struggles she went through. She had a bad childhood almost like the one Harry had with Dursley. Her mother died when she was a teenager. She decided to go back to Edinburgh to live near her sister, She didn’t have any income as jobs were singular. She relied mainly on government assistance, which afforded her a small flat and barely enough money to get by. The responsibility of raising her daughter alone certainly didn’t help the situation, either. She was depressed, having come from a relationship of abuse and now raising a little girl on her own with only welfare money in her pocket. She contemplated suicide more than once during this time, but she overcame it.
J.K Rowling started with Nothing; A divorcee, Single mother, Impoverished, and Depressed. She still managed to push through and chase her dreams. She is a strong feminist, A self-lover, she inspires girls to be intelligent rather than just be beautiful. Most of all she never gave up, no matter how much she went through, she always stood up and fought harder.
She is a true model for me and many of us. She inspired me to write and gave me hope That no matter what life throws at you, you can always find a way back. that even in the darkest of times there is a ray of hope. ‘Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if only one remembers to turn on the light’.
