Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) is all arranged to admit a total of 8,154 students in the first batch of its world’s first-time-ever virtual BSc Degree in Programming and Data Science.
Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director of IIT Madras explained that the institute was performing everything feasible to provide a great learning experience to the pupils. The courses are provided through an online portal. Students are provided with the chance to take part in LIVE sessions to elucidate their doubts. The exams are conducted in-person so that the academic thoroughness of the program is retained,’ he said A total of 30,276 candidates had pertained for the first qualifier process. They were provided access to the first month virtual classes of the programme. A highly qualified content assistance team, precisely appointed for this purpose, conducted almost 400 hours of live sessions, to benefit the learning process of the learners.
Only students with a minimum required regular assignment scores in all four courses were capable to appear for the in-person invigilated Qualifier Exam. A total of 20,396 learners were able to write the qualifier exam, which was conducted on November 22.
These learners can enrol for the foundational level courses, which will be given from January 2021. The 8,154 students comprised 1,922 female candidates and 6,232 male candidates across India. Learners from several age groups and educational backgrounds applied for the qualifier. As many as 1,593 learners were from Arts, Science and Commerce background while 3,450 learners were from an engineering background.
IIT Madras initiated a new degree programme structure as part of the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) programme. The profession of this degree, Programming and Data Science, saturates almost every element of human endeavour today and therefore a student qualified in this area can anticipate a substantial improvement in professional opportunities.
